This book has changed my view of relationships and how easily we are attracted to those who are ultimately not our soulmate, but instead our woundmate. I would highly recommend it to those of you who have survived childhood trauma, and thus suffer from codependency or as Ross says, self-love deficit disorder (which I love!) This book will leave you with your mouth wide open, again and again, while experiencing what seemed to me like a million "aha" moments! I see Ross Rosenberg as a true humanitarian on this issue. Way to shine the spotlight on learning to LOVE ourselves first, Ross! Keep writing, making videos, speaking, training and teaching! You have a gift!

Ross is the expert on the dance between Co-Dependents and Narcissist. I had no idea why I was always attracting this type of toxic person. Ross spells it out plain and simple. I have been able to peel another layer of the onion back learning about SLDD, and how it has contribiuted to attracting toxic people. He answers the question, "why do we love people who hurt is" - shocking but true. He gave me tools plus resources to recover from SLDD (Self Love Defecit Disorder) and ways to stop attracting toxic/narcissistic people. Couldn't be happier with this purchase. I've even been able to use Ross wisdom to help other women who find themselves in the toxic dance.

In this book, he explains the origins of both Narcissistic Personality Disorder and Codependency or Self Love Deficit Disorder (as he has renamed the term). With his "Human Magnet Syndrome" theory, he explains how and why we attract and are attracted to, our romantic partners. He explains in a way that is easy to understand, why codependents attract narcissists and why narcissists attract codependents.Consciously, we may know what we are attracted to in a mate, but buried deep in our subconscious, is an invisible force (that we are not even aware of) that was programmed into us as young children when we experienced childhood trauma, which pulls us toward/attracts us to a person with traits that complement our traits. We were conditioned as young children to be attracted to some people and not others. Subconsciously, we are recreating our childhood trauma in an attempt to heal it, and we are not even aware that is what we are doing. All we know is there is intense, irresistible chemistry. Someone who is high on the narcissistic scale will strongly attract someone who is high on the codependent scale and someone who is high on the codependent scale will strongly attract someone who is high on the narcissistic scale. This is why we have explosive fire work chemistry with some people and not others. I am a civil war buff (why I am is a long story!) and so have read dozens of books about the civil war. Even so, there was information contained in this book which was new to me, presented in a very readable and enjoyable style. Don’t expect a deep dive into a conflict which dozens and dozens of writers have written painstakingly about. Do expect a very interestingly and pleasantly written birds-eye view of the Civil War.

I have the Kindle version. I have encountered dozens of words that do not exist or make no sense in the text. It appears that this is the result of a horrible job scanning the text into the Kindle format. It makes for unpleasant reading. I am 18% in and thinking of giving up.

Fletcher Pratt was one of those rare writers who were equally at home in both fiction and nonfiction. I previously owned a paperback copy of this book, retitled "A Short History of the Civil War". It was one of my most read histories. I literally read it to pieces. There are sadly very few historians who can breathe real life into their chosen subject matter. Bruce Catton and Shelby Foote come immediately to mind. My only fault with the kindle version are with typos and miswordings that I immediately picked up on from my reading of the paperback. A lot of the writing does seem archaic (The book was originally published in 1935.) My paperback edition dates back to the 1950s and has a forwarding chapter that mentions in brief World War 2 and the correlation to the Civil War. On the whole this is a good one book introduction to the Civil War and may whet your appetite for more of the same.

Dear Reader, My father got me this book when I was 17. I barely understood at the time what a heretical book it was; but I'll say this, it taught me how to think. More than being a "Unionist', Pratt is a humanist, he views the war as a tragedy, filled with genius, grandeur and misery, and brought to a place of potential transcendence by an adherence to republican principles by a man who was almost without ideology, Abraham Lincoln. He revisits the basic why? Because the South thought the North would not fight, or if it did, it would be a joke. The North was shocked not that so many states seceded, but that any of them did. He allows the story to unfold; the currents take you on the terrifying ride that time was. His 'takes' on the different personalities are years ahead of their time. His only miss is the nasty Sheridan, who, gutsy commander that he could be, padded his portfolio shamelessly, and I'm sure Pratt was working from his memoirs. Stone's River does stand as written. He was the first author to apply 20th Century critical mind to these 'holy' figures. I remember my father shaking his head after I'd regaled him with a few choice bits. "It's just that when I was a kid, we were taught to look at those men on a pedestal, figures to hold up as models that were above us." I then and there decided to attain those places in my own quiet way. Pratt shows you what attitudes and philosophies worked, and why. It's for us to apply those lessons to our own time. Unionist? His praise of the Southern soldier is all the more powerful for beingtersely put. For the leaders who propelled them into conflict he doesn't have much use. But Northern politicians often fare no better. He enters detail that it would take historians decades to emphasize, the genius of Adams, the US Ambassador to England, The Knights of the Golden Circle.... It hurts him that the old "infinite numbers and material" reason for Northern victory is substituted for so many examples of genius, spirit and gutsy fighting that produced victories that crowded the South away from its granaries, Kentucky and Tennessee and the machinations of the English and French Empires. Fire won the day, not some amoebic mass that smothered the REAL men. He corrects the false population tables that are still used. Lincoln's progressive handing over of power as the war aims were met is given it's proper attention. If you like this book, you MUST read his history of the Consular period of Napoleonic France, "The Empire and the Glory." Prepare to view the English reaction to a revolutionary France stabilized in a not-so-flattering light.

I've always been a military history buff, with the American Civil War being an area of particular interest. I first read this book many years ago and loved Pratt's writing style, but it is not just a blow-by-blow telling of battles and campaigns. Instead it goes to the personalities and psychologies of the leaders involved, and encapsulates them with short vignettes and sharp telling phrases. Their personalities predict their military strengths and weaknesses. Few escape his criticism… perhaps Sherman and Grant, Longstreet and some others at Gettysburg, Thomas. The politics leading up to the war, and continuing through the war, are similarly treated. Read Shelby Foote's three volumes (and you should) for more information, and of a different kind. Pratt's is a short history as the title says, often scathing, and completely delightful. I sat next to a man on an airplane once who was a member of the Civil War Roundtable. I was struck by how strongly he disliked Pratt's history when I brought it up. I think that too many of his heroes got gored.

This is probably the best short history of the Civil War. More than just reporting battles, Pratt takes us through the politics and the personalities of the time. The cultural and sociological aspects are clear and pointed. Yes, the glories and horrors of war are covered there, but so are the side shows, like the draft riots, the anti-slavery movement, the Knights of the Golden Circle, international intrigues, Lincoln's inaugurations and speeches, and the infighting in the Cabinets of both Northern and Southern presidents. A grand picture of a critical part of America's growth. Don't miss it!

This is a replacement copy of the book I read over 50 years ago. This would not be a book for Civil War buffs but it served as my excellent introduction to the Civil War. Anyone who is not familiar with Civil War history can do no better than reading this excellent study of this period. It can serve very well as a primer on the Civil War and lead to more detailed study of this period.

I haven't picked up a book in a few years because works been busy. It's a pass time that I miss. "Dirt Don't Slow You Down" got me back into reading and was a great a book. I couldn't put it down. Very interesting and motivating story about a unique individual. Thanks Magnus for sharing your journey. Maybe one day I'll be able to make it to an outlaw gathering with my 912.

Inspirational story even if you are not a sports car fanatic. I really thought there would be a whole lot of Porsche talk and knowledge within. And there really is some of that within.. But that is only part of the story Magnus tells. Most of it covers his upbringing, how he became an entrepreneur and where that led him. I will definitely read this again and consider it part of my permanent book collection.

As a Porsche 911 fan the book is a natural book for me to read. What surprised me was that I really enjoyed his story as much as I enjoyed the 911 stories.

After meeting Magnus Walker in person, I felt compelled to read this. It was worth every penny of the $11.45 to gain an understanding of his more personal background, as well as his tribulations, business endeavours, and successes. I bought 3 more copies to disseminate amongst my peers, and you should too.

All my friends should read this. I couldn't help but wish that it would not end ... very entertaining.Enjoyed the Urban Outlaw film also.
