I bought this book for my seven year old son, in the hope that he would work his way into it over time (recommended age is from 9). He is able to read quite a lot of the text at this stage, with a bit of help. This is great for his reading practice.Most importantly it is a book he wants to read. The photographs are excellent, and there is more than enough information for him at this stage in development. It is a perfect "Show and Tell" item to bring into the class, with the added bonus that it has a hard binding.His five year old sister is also very taken with the drawings of the solar system and the planets and moons. It is a book guaranteed to attract the interest of any child.

This was a gift and my 9 year old nephew loved it for his birthday gift. Very satisfied with this book.

My 8 year old who is fascinated with space LOVED this, even the 5 year old likes it as it has tons of pictures and facts. Purchased over a year ago and they still read it all the time.

I was so excited to read this but it left me feeling quite disappointed. This book may be applicable to some teachers who have one child in their class who has experienced trauma or for those that have little or no previous knowledge of trauma but that is about it. I have four main gripes with this book. The first one hit me almost immediately and continued to bash my brain throughout. She uses overwhelm as a noun and it drives me crazy. I thought it was incorrect but checked the dictionary just in case I was wrong. Nope, overwhelm is a verb. How did it get by the editors? The second issue is that this book may be applicable to teachers who have one child who has experienced trauma and work in a nice school in the suburbs, but the strategies suggested are impractical, if not impossible for a class/school where a large majority of the children have high ACE scores. The third problem is that the author speaks about the parents as if they are helpful and knowledgeable. Perhaps this is true for parents of children that experienced acute trauma or for foster/adoptive parents, but the parents of my students are the ones who inflicted the trauma. The final beef I have is that she makes her solutions sound so easy. Sure, just build a relationship with the children and they will be fixed. Creating relationships is a very long process, especially with a class of Billys.If anyone has recommendations for other books that could help, please share.

Just ok for our specific situation. While we are able to apply many of the "Beyond Consequences" strategies at home, I struggled to apply the examples and specifics of this book to our children, ages 13 and 14. I felt this book was aimed at much younger children with fairly high behaviors. For our middle school and main streamed children, I felt many of the suggestions weren't realistic/applicable. Mix in the pressures of trying to fit in with your peers in middle school and many or most of the "visible" suggestions (having a student pace in the back of the class) are just not going to be taken seriously by our teens. I was also disappointed that such a small portion of the book focused on the IEP. With the language changes suggested to the IEP (altering the language to place less blame on the child), I felt the suggested language made the IEP more difficult to interpret. I think that is fine if you are writing the IEP with the child's one classroom teacher (like pre or elementary school). For us, our children have 7 instructors,none of whom are present during the writing process. Regardless of the "tone" of the IEP, I want them to quickly understand the behavior, the expected solution, etc. since they most likely aren't going to spend a bunch of time interpreting it.

This might be because of adoption, early trauma, long term illness, autism, or a host of other things.This unfortunately means that when they are presented with a problem, they do not respond to "traditional" methods of "If you don't do this, then x will happen." In fact, traditional methods of consequences and behavioral modification will actually often make the problem worse.Forbes introduces the idea that working with these children on a logical level will not work because they are farther away, in a primitive "fight or flight" mode almost all of the time. Her strategies focus on how to help these children calm down and learn how to feel safe in stressful situations, with a long term goal of them being able to learn the strategies and be more regulated on their own.I picked up this book on a friend's recommendation. She has a child who was constantly in trouble at school and could not handle regular life the way a child her age should be able to. Thankfully my friend found this resource and after 8 months has been able to change her daughter's entire life.This book is highly recommended for:Parents, teachers, or close family friends of children who are not coping well with normal life adversities because of earlier life "traumas". I will be recommending this to anyone and everyone.

Suggested read from RAD experts. Spot on for my children. Opened my eyes to things I had never known in 20 years of teaching. Using suggestions and strategies in my classroom is making a difference. Talk it through. Understand how child is feeling and what they are thinking. Only then can I begin to make a difference. As technology changes, so do the circumstances children are subjected to and great advances in understanding are available. It isn't always the cut & dry "it was your choice". This book helps make sense of how, where, when, why some children struggle. Knowledge, understanding, then empathy are key! I have seen the techniques in action and the results were astounding. Gives me some validation that I am doing OK as well. Getting additional copies for those who interact with my child frequently.

Excellent. For someone who has dealt with trauma personally and with many children, and is a teacher, I have the following things to say:1. This book is concise and to the point and not cumbersome or confusing.2. It's very practical and gives great examples and suggestions.3. It's on point with everything I know and have read about trauma and intervention.

I wish I could give this MORE stars! This was just what I was looking for! I recently got back into cross stitch. I bought a cute set from the store that came with everything I needed. When I finished it, I couldn't wait to start a new project. The problem was that I didn't find any other kit appealing. It didn't fit my style. Most looked like stuff my grandma would make. No offense to any grandmas. I will be one some day but I wanted something that fit my personality amd style for now. (I'm 38 years old with a young and sassy personality) I looked online for patterns but most sites wanted to charge 8 bucks just for the pattern in pdf format. That wasnt working for me. So I decided to look on amazon and came across this book! I was so excited! This fit my personality and it was a great price! I got the book in 2 days. I want to do every one of them! The pictures are gorgeous and the captions are hilarious. The quality of the book is amazing. The patterns are easy to read as well and are not complicated. I feel that it is perfect for beginners like myself. She even includes 3 different styles of alphabet and a black graft so you can create your own pattern. The book is also small enough to throw in my purse and take with me anywhere. I am a huge fan and will be searching for more books from her. Girl! I am a huge fan! Please give us sassy girls MORE!!!

Love this! It's so much fun. I ended up buying some of that red guide string (red fishing line basically--see picture, I bought it on Amazon) to use with this. I'm a beginner and found this easy to use. If it helps, I fold my material in half, both directions, and that helps me start my pattern. It suggests to start in the center, and this process helps. :)Also, you can mix and match the borders if you plan it right. I also do different colors than what is recommended, so embrace your creativity!

I've been following Julie Jackson's site for the past few months as I have been getting into cross stitching. The wording and borders are perfect for adding a bit of snark to just about any cross stitch piece. The book is a nice size with pictures of the patterns all stitched up, as well as the patterns to stitch each. Very happy with this purchase.

I bought this for my wife who has a wicked sense of humor and has recently taken up cross stitch as a new hobby. This book has been perfect for her. She loves the patterns for their subversive content, and very much appreciates that the patterns are in full color. Previously she had been printing patterns from online, but with a black and white printer she had to rely on patterns printed with different symbols to represent colors. This became extremely tedious, especially in patterns with over 30 colors! The pictures are basically to-scale, which makes cross stitching them very easy for counting squares.This book made an especially great present for my wife since it has 50 different patterns so there is a lot for her to choose from which will supply her with patterns for months. The patterns she had been buying off of etsy cost about $3 apiece, so this book represented an exceptional value. On top of that, it makes a great coffee table book for people to enjoy the juxtaposition of the "traditional" hobby of cross stitching (as my wife puts it, her "old lady" hobby) with the very funny quotes. If they ever release a second volume I will surely buy a copy for my wife.

This is awesome. I recently learned to cross stitch because - basically - my wife commented upon a design that my brother-in-law had stitched for a birthday card that "David could never do this kind of thing." To use Ms. Jackson's own words: "Bitch, please." I got a quirky pattern from another designer ("Crafty Chicks Are Hot" - she is, on both counts) and, with a tutorial from my sister, I set about doing it as a challenge for my wife's birthday. I thought it would take me a month and I'd hate it, but I found it an incredibly relaxing pastime and I finished it in a little over a week, stitching only when my wife had gone to bed. Then I found this book and it was basically game over - I'm a stitching freak. I'm on my fifth pattern from it, and am getting pretty proficient. I even bought spindles and an organizer for my floss. Whodathunkit?

Love this book! I just started cross stitching but the brief instructions in the beginning of the book are enough to get going. I've already made a couple of the patterns and love them and have a request to make one for a friend. They are cheeky little sayings. I also really appreciate the lettering charts in the back which I plan to use in the future to try and stitch some of my own little sayings. The book comes with a nice selection of borders as well.

When I got it I didn’t think I was going to like it because it’s wasn’t as big as I thought it should be. But boy was I wrong! The content is not only helpful to new cross stitcher, it had my LOLing at every page. Absolutely love it and already completed one project from it! Very easy to read patterns and big enough your not hurting your eyes trying to figure it out!

Awesome book of patterns, I've done a few of them & can't wait to do the rest

This book very nicely introduces basic machine learning concepts like regression, decision trees, and neural networks and how to easily build, train, and evaluate models in R. In the final chapter, the author ties everything together nicely by showing how to tie everything together using the excellent caret package.The overall information is fantastic. However, this book has a surprising number of errors. These were mostly instances where the text showed one value, but the sample output showed another, perhaps due to code being re-run without using the same random seed. There were also instances where figure references were wrong. Although they didn't hurt my ability to learn, they were a big distraction, and could make things difficult for someone new to R or to ML.

This is a nice, simple, and comprehensive introduction on how to go about doing Machine Learning in R programming environment and I would have definitely recommended it for beginners were it not for the incredibly high number of either minor typos or just outright wrong text included in this book. There are pages where the author is saying one thing, while the code and the results are showing something else. In some places, the author refers to Appendix for additional statistical details, but there is no such Appendix to be found. As a beginner myself, I spent many minutes self-flagellating over why I didn't understand something that was obvious to the author before I realized that there was an error in the book. If you were to buy this book, I would recommend that you code along and not rely on the outputs shown in the book. When I shell out about $50 on a book, the *least* I expect is that somebody has proofread it before publishing and mass-distributing it. Really disappointed with O'Reilly Publishers.

The output of R code does not match typed up equations, and in turn does not match up printed coefficients on graphs. Someone needs to proof-read before publish it. Very shoddy job on the editor's side.

The print quality is terrible, cant even read the images. Almost like this is a bootleg print, copied from the internet and printed in some shady warehouse in china. Junk. And pages falling out!

I found this to be a very friendly introduction to machine learning with R. It had a good combination of explanation and code examples. It covered all the major machine learning algorithms without getting too much in the weeds. I feel my knowledge and comfort with machine learning and R improved as a result. Highly recommended.

This book really breaks down machine learning in a way that allows anyone to learn it. It was perfect for my first exposure!

These experiments are fun and simple enough so that you don't necessarily have to be an expert in physics to understand

I find the procedures to be highly organized because everything is explained step by step with even some pictures. I have read most of Dent's books and enjoyed them. This is his weakest by far. I had high hopes, but was left vey disappointed.Dent made his name on demographics and his spending cycle, which are good tools for directionality but fail to match actual events. He tried to cover this by adding more cycles which stretches reality too far. I have a real problem with his supposed geopolitical cycle and his argument in the book is very poorly done. He has multiple pages of current negative events, but blows off the period of 1983 to 2000 by saying nothing bad happened; ignoring Beirut, Chernobyl, Columbine, Iraq invasion, Tinammen Square, etc. His innovation cycle is supported by some slight of hand that just shows the weakness of the basic argument. All he seems to have left is the sun spot cycle, with such a large time variation to negate its value and no real reason for it to have any effect. His long term cycles are even less credible.A recession is likely coming, but this book doesn't really present anything new for discussion. I expected so much more.

I felt like such a fool - I read this, believed it, and made the mistake of repeating some of the things from this book to some people who actually know things about finance and investing. When they found out where I got the ideas from, seriously, they almost wet their pants laughing at me. "Hoo hoooo - Carol bought a Harry Dent book! Hahahahaha!" Then I found out that he has written the same predictions with different dates for years. Years and years, in book after book. Nothing has ever come true the way Harry thought it would, but he is still selling books like crazy, to suckers like me. And like you, if you buy this book.

Just about finished with this book and really enjoyed it. Had read the one before this too. I then, out of curiosity, Googled "Harry Dent". You would not believe the number of articles on how many of his predictions have gone completely bust.I like his writing style and his level of confidence. I also like all the data he provides. I would take this book as "one more bit of data for your knowledge base" and not as the Bible as to where to put your money.

Harry creates a fear factor and then attempts to sell you his services to save the day. Old scare tactic that has been around for years. He already missed his prediction that the stock market bubble would bust the end of 2017. He does not know what triggers the bust and that is critical to forecasting markets. Book contains lots of historical graphs, but again hindsight is always a 100%. In general it is a good history of previous market busts, but I would not count on him to forecast future busts in a timely maner.

The Market cycles up & down eventually, simply wait and it will happen. This down trend was originally suppose to happen last year so this book HAD to be updated. The last chapter is only available online and it's a sales pitch for Dent's various newsletters. He has some interesting ideas. Do your own due diligence and you will grow your portfolio much better.

More of the same recycled predictions, of which I have yet to see any from prior books come to fruition anywhere near the timing stated.

Fascinating read but harry Dent spent 300+ pages defending his prediction and about 5 pages an action plan if he's correct. I'm glad it wasn't released to public until Jan. 2017 because for those who might have taken his advice in late 2016 would have missed out on the Q4 run up in the market after the election. I have read at least 2 of his earlier books and while I do believe there will be a correction in the market coming, it proves that no one, not even Harry Dent, can predict the future with certainty. Still an entertaining read though.

It’s fun to read self proclaimed experts when the book is around 2 years old. I hope nobody acted based on his recommendations. “ in 2017 the Dow will be down to 4,500” if you believed this and went to a cash position, you couldn’t ride the wave to 26,000 in 2017. It’s just a goood lesson about how you can’t believe these prognosticators.

After taking the NBCOT, I can say that this book and the AOTA study guide were what helped me pass.

Great resource for the Nbcot exam. Helpful online tools as well, especially with the rationales and explanations for each question. Highly recommend this in addition to Therapy Ed or the PDFs from the aota website. Good luck studying! You know more than you think

Used this book in combination with therapyed book and passed on the first try, I definitely think this book should be used as an adjunct to a more detailed book like therapyed. The questions are easier than those on the actual exam but I still found this book to be useful for developing clinical reasoning and being able to determine what the question is really asking due to the detailed answer explanations.

This book was very helpful in helping me practice time management and pass the NBCOT on the first try. My only complaint is that many of the online questions are also in the book. Rationals very well written and helpful, however this book should be used in addition to other resources.

Excellent Resource to prepare for NBCOT Exam

So useful for the practice tests - I used it in combination with the NOTCE: Review Study Guide 7th Edition with great success. Good luck!

This is definitely one of the better books out there for studying for the NBCOT exam. It helped me out a lot in passing it the second time around. Doing all 800 questions in this book helped to learn how to answer these questions and really look for exactly what they are asking for. I would say the questions in this book are pretty similar to the questions on the real exam.

I didnt realize this book was JUST practice tests + explanations of answers. I was looking for a more comprehensive test prep program that includes the information you need to memorize. Maybe I just misinterpreted the item description...
