How Graham Norton finds the time to write novels is beyond me, given his broadcasting commitments alone, as like any public figure of his stature , heust have numerous other demands to his time. Initially I found the disruption of switching from Now and Then irritating simply because one has to readjust. But once into the structure and flow, it ceases to be an issue because of the relationship to the story. One has to suspect that Elizabeth's story, whilst fiction, may have deep roots of fact from the difficult and traumatic recent past of Ireland's social history. Everyone has their place here, but it is ultimately the misguided ideas of Edward's mother that stands out. Even though she is hardly a character to like, Graham Norton portrays her horrific behaviour brilliantly. For such a naturally clever and witty person, to write a book such as this, which hasn't a funny sentence in it, Graham Norton can deservedly add to his accomplishments, author.
I suspect like most people I know of Graham Norton in his role as TV talk show host. A witty, charming guy who plays the role of being a little dim. Judging by his skill and ability to tell a story this is a long way from the truth. Graham Norton can legitimately call himself a very good author. This is a wonderfully written mystery and a book well worth reading. Congratulations
Norton tells this story so well, that I couldn't wait to get back to it each day. Set in Ireland, it relates a backstory and a present day narrative with adept and extraordinary skill. The characters are not stereotypes. That means a lot to me as a reader. I have watched The Graham Norton Show for several years on B.B.C. America. I always look forward to it, and now I look forward to his novels with equal anticipation.
Came upon this book by accident, I had no idea that Graham Norton was a writer and i am blown away by his talent for storytelling. Brilliant book start to finish a real page turner. Looking forward to many more brilliant stories.
A Keeper was the kind of book I couldn't wait to get back to. I read it over 3 or 4 days, and loved it. The Irish setting, (which wasn't overdone) the sub-plot of the son and his father, the ending, and the narrative all spoke to me like a good book should. I have always been a fan of Mr. Norton's TV shows, but had no idea he could write a good story. A nice easy read without the fluff.
This is a transportative moving book. The writing is so descriptive I could see every scene so clearly. If they make this book into a movie there's an Oscar there for anyone who can convey Edward as beautifully as he is written.
Really great read with some heart stopping moments that won't let you put this book down!
Recommended for anyoneWho enjoys intrigue, Witt and the perfect mix of humour and sadness and of course anyone who has ever lived or visited rural ireland or especially west cork.
